Sunday Red

Ahhh, a weekend of freedom. Now, it's back to reality...

Your All-Star Teams. I am always intrigued by how a mass of people think and vote. The stock market is a wonderful example of this, as people are able to make money and therefore there is an intense amount of preparation that can go into even the smallest of trades. The MLB All-Star game is different from the market, but nevertheless, it is always fascinating to see if fans want to reward the most popular players or the players that are truly deserving. This year we (the voters) did a good job. Ok, so we managed to get the AL Shortstop wrong (Bartlett over Jeter would have been the correct call) and AL 1b (Tex has been great, but Youkilis has been better, same with Branyan and Cabrera. Morneau, while an offensive powerhouse, hurts himself with the glove...but who watches the All-Star game for the defense of the starting first basemen?) Josh Hamilton was also a curious decision, since he is 1. hurt and 2. the numbers he put up were not All-Star worthy. In the NL the catcher (McCann over Molina would have been the right call) and some of the OF spots (Justin Upton was a deserving starter and a case could be made for Matt Kemp as well). Overall, we did well.

For what it is worth the two starting pitchers should be Zack Greinke (not all that close) and Dan Haren (very close with Tim Lincecum).

Except for Manny Acta no manager has had to deal with as many rumors about their impending firing as Eric Wedge has had to hear. He is staying put. The next best thing the Indians can do is rest Sizemore for a while. His elbow will require surgery, so why damage your best player during a lost season?

A quiet weekend baseball wise...no trades, no injuries, and nothing all that spectacular happening.

Oh yeah, Manny came back...at least he is not in the All-Star game.

I might post something later. Probably something to back up what I said about the All-Star selections. The selection show on TBS was actually decent, I mean Eck and Cal Ripken Jr. were on, which is enough for me. I was hoping that David Wells would play Artie Lange to Ernie Johnson's Joe Buck, but unfortunately I was denied that.
